As a school board member, I wrote and presented a policy to provide more oversight for our school libraries, as well as all of our classroom libraries. After it unanimously passed, the district knew they would need a long time to audit every school library, but in the meantime, graphic, inappropriate books that have made their way onto our schools' shelves over the years would remain there. 

 

Fortunately, I had already been in contact with NBRI, and was prepared to send every catalog for swift review and identification of books that have been flagged, challenged, and/or removed nationwide. Once I sent in the files for every library, within a week, NBRI provided a comprehensive list of matched book reviews. This tool took what would have been months of work and whittled it down to less than 2 weeks in total.

 

NBRI also provided a comprehensive grading scale that showed why something was flagged and a link describing the material that had the book flagged. The amount of time, research, and exhaustive cataloging this process alleviated was incredible.

 

I know that sometimes we hear that we cannot do a full audit because of the workload it will impose on the staff. This program removed that barrier, doing the heavy lifting for the entire district in a very short amount of time. I cannot recommend NBRI enough, and will be sharing it with all surrounding districts in my area. Thank you so much for creating this incredible tool to help protect children from inappropriate materials in our schools.
